Tory Lanez Discusses the Influence of "Chixtapes," Saying That New Artists Are "Doing EXACTLY What I Was Doin"

Tory Lanez claims that all of the sampling on the “Chixtapes” that aroused outrage is now standard procedure.
Tory Lanez claims that he received blowback for adopting the same sampling techniques that are now prevalent when working on his Chixtape series. In a tweet on Tuesday, the Canadian rapper expressed his thoughts on the subject.

“It’s insane… N****s used to get upset with me because I would SAMPLE ALL THE RECORDS THAT WERE NOT ALLOWED TO SAMPLE ON THE CHIXTAPES! “he penned “Now I look up to a whole generation of artists that are doing EXACTLY what I was doing… slicing up vintage Rnb/Pop samples and upgrading them to the current sound.”

Lanez’s debut Chixtape was released in 2011, and he went on to release five more over the decade. Chixtape 5, the most recent entry, was released in 2019 and reached number two on the US Billboard 200. Lanez has stated that it is his best effort in the series, edging out Chixtape 2 by a hair.

In a 2019 interview with HNHH, he stated, “Chixtape 5 had to take the number one slot.” “Just because of how good it is, and the production, and the surprises and events that occur, and the rollercoaster that it takes you on.” As a consumer, I believe Chixtape 5 offers the best musical experience.
