Vince McMahon’s Retirement: Ric Flair’s Reaction

The two-time WWE Hall of Famer expresses gratitude to his previous job.
The announcement last week by longstanding WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon to resign amid allegations of workplace misbehavior and hush money payments stunned the professional wrestling industry. Ric Flair, a two-time member of the WWE Hall of Fame, expressed admiration for his former employer in his response to McMahon’s exit from the company.

In an interview with TMZ Sports earlier this week, Flair said, “I think he’s one of a kind and I’ve said this. He basically made chicken salad out of a bunch of chicken s**t and has made so many people wealthy. Mojo is aware of what I’m referring to. He has enriched a lot of individuals.

Due to claims that McMahon paid three former employees and one contractor millions of dollars to conceal his sexual misbehavior, McMahon is presently the subject of an inquiry.

Flair stated, “I mean, they’re basically trying to kill him now and who knows and all.” I’m not taking a position on the matter that has reportedly been brought up and I’m not supporting anything that’s terrible, but I do know him as a person and what he did.

Regardless of controversy, McMahon’s tale of rags-to-riches and unmistakable salesmanship is inspiring. In a destitute trailer park in North Carolina, he was raised. He went to work for his father’s tiny wrestling organization following college. In order to create the WWE, McMahon acquired his father’s business over the following few years along with a number of other small wrestling federations. After bringing on celebrities like Hulk Hogan, WWE expanded and gained international fame. Soon after WWE went public in 2000, Forbes recognized McMahon as a billionaire.

This Saturday, Flair and his son-in-law will compete in their final match of their legendary career, a tag team match.
